Ozzy is a friendly character created as a pet for Superosso grocery store, in Mexico. I designed the character as well as the logotype. Both are integrated in Superosso’s branding.
A superhero is born!
This character was created based on a pun. In Mexico there is a minimarkets franchise named Oxxo. Superosso’s CEO decided to name his trademark “osso” as a way to make fun of Oxxo’s mispronunciation.
The CEO’s goal was to found a supermarket, so I suggested him to name his brand “Superosso” instead of just “osso”, as well as for copyright reasons.
The word “oso” in Spanish means “bear”. As the sound of “Superosso” is the same as “super oso” (super bear) I also suggested him to create a brand’s pet in the form of a superhero bear.
Creating Superosso’s character
The first draft of the character was an adult bear directly inspired from the CEO. This first version reflected the CEO’s personality, but it wasn’t cute enough.
A brand new friendlier hero
Superosso’s second and final version was a little bear. As he was no longer and adult, but a young boy, I chose to name him Ozzy, instead of Osso.
The story behind the character
Ozzy sees in his daddy a superhero. One day Ozzy’s daddy gets fired from his job and a lot of problems start happening at home. Ozzy decides to show his dad the true value of family and to never give up, as a real superhero should do. He teaches his father that we can always solve life’s problems thanks to the most powerful superpower: family’s love.
